Hōʻike Kauaʻi Community Media

Aloha, everyone! Olivia here with your County Council Update for this week, along with highlights from last week’s meeting. As this is the final County Council meeting of the month, there will be no update next week—I, along with two other Hō’ike team members, will be attending a regional conference in Fresno to learn about community media center marketing strategies. We’ll be back with insights soon, but for now, let’s dive into the latest council discussions!

🔹 Key Topics Covered in This Update:

✅ Kekaha Landfill Crisis & Recycling Solutions – Community members voiced concerns over curbside recycling and ways to reduce landfill waste. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments! ♻️
✅ 2024 Cost Control Commission Report – Two major recommendations were proposed:
•Mid-Year Resolution to improve budget transparency
•Secondary Budget Review to add oversight to council spending
✅ New Bill on Trespassing Authority – The council is considering granting county employees the authority to trespass individuals from county lands in cases of unlawful behavior and public safety concerns.
